May is Mental Health Awareness month! Good mental health is an important aspect of our overall health and wellbeing. However, it is often overlooked by medical professionals and sometimes stigmatized by the general public. Awareness of mental health helps to develop understanding and empathy for all of us, particularly those who experience challenges.
Mental health promotes greater satisfaction in life, relationships, career, and social interactions. While therapy is one way to maintain mental health, there are many things we can do each day that contribute to keeping things in balance.
Strategies for cultivating positive mental and emotional health:
- Exercise – 30 minutes of movement a day can boost mood
- Eating healthy, staying hydrated
- Consistently getting good sleep
- Relaxation activities – mediation, quiet reflection, breathing, yoga
- Creativity – writing, crafting, listening to music, knitting, sewing
- Setting goals and making priorities
- Focusing on positivity
- Staying connected to others
- Learning to say “no” sometimes, setting boundaries
- Asking for help or support
In recognition of the mental health needs of the community, GOC has immediate openings for psychiatric services. We are also able to facilitate immediate connection to therapy services for those who are uninsured or have insurance we don’t accept with our sliding scale discount.
To get started, just complete the new patient Intake Form and our staff will follow up promptly.
