I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. My approach to therapy has been primarily influenced by Contextual Family Therapy. This is a theory that focuses on relational ethics. I work with patients to explore how their family of origin has shaped/influenced their lives. Concepts of trust, fairness, reciprocity, respect and compassion and kindness are explored since they influence our perspectives and how we are in relationship to ourselves and others.
I speak of needing tools in our toolbox to help the therapy process. One very effective tool is mindfulness. Another is having realistic expectations of ourselves and others. We can only change ourselves. However we can come to understand our past in a new light and when possible address issues with those who are most important in our life.
